Shanshan, congrats on the opening! First off — why start a golf club now, and why in Nansha?

Thank you! You know, people often ask why athletes do “projects” after competing. For me it’s simple: golf changed my life, so I wanted to give something back — but not in a dusty, old-fashioned way. Nansha is an energetic, growing area with great potential. It’s close to communities and schools, and we saw an opportunity to build a place where high-level training and everyday accessibility meet. Think of it as a place where kids can dream big and adults can actually find time to practice without worrying about rain or traffic.

The club features four GOLFJOY 4K simulators. You’re GOLFJOY’s brand ambassador — what convinced you this tech was the right choice?

I’ve used a lot of systems in my career. As an athlete, accuracy matters — and as a coach and founder, reliability matters even more. GOLFJOY stood out because their data is trustworthy and the playing experience is very close to on-course reality. The visuals are gorgeous — the 4K really helps with reading greens and course context — but it’s the sensor accuracy and support network that sealed the deal for me. Also, I tested it myself — if I’m happy to train with it, I know our students will be too. Plus, working with a partner that designs, manufactures, and supports their systems end-to-end means fewer surprises during setup and long-term operation.

You mentioned youth development as a major focus. Tell us more about the programs and why youth is so important to you.

I grew up learning that sport builds character — discipline, patience, resilience. Golf is a perfect vehicle for that. At Nansha we’re not just teaching swings; we’re building athletic foundations. We have a dedicated physical training studio, body-assessment protocols, and coaches trained in youth development. The aim is dual: keep academic performance strong while giving kids a pathway to pursue golf seriously if they want. We want them to enjoy the process — and for parents to feel confident about both education and sport development.

How does tech — specifically GOLFJOY — change the way kids learn compared to traditional coaching?

Tremendously. Data-driven feedback accelerates learning. Kids get immediate, visual feedback on ball flight, clubhead speed, impact location — things that used to be abstract. It turns drilling into a game: hit this target, lower this metric, beat your personal best. That kind of measurable progress keeps motivation high. And for coaches, it makes planning and monitoring far more scientific. We can identify small technical issues early and personalize training — that’s powerful.

As a founder and a high-profile athlete, do you ever worry the club might feel too “elite” or exclusive?

Not at all — in fact that’s the opposite of what I want. Yes, we offer elite coaching and high-spec equipment, but we designed the space to be welcoming. The name of the game is inclusivity. Beginners, hobbyists, parents, juniors — everyone is welcome. We cheer for first-time swings and celebrate big improvements. If someone’s first experience with golf is at our simulator and they leave smiling, we’ve done something right.

Looking ahead, what’s your vision for the Nansha venue and for your role with GOLFJOY?

For Nansha, I see it as a model — a training hub that balances academic life, youth growth, and professional pathways. I want it to be a place that regularly produces confident, well-rounded young players who can choose to pursue golf or carry life skills forward. With GOLFJOY, my role is both ambassador and practical partner: I’ll keep testing, using, and advocating for tech that genuinely helps development. We’ll run joint programs, exchange coaching best practices, and hopefully inspire more facilities to adopt data-driven, player-first approaches.

What’s a moment from these first days that made you feel this was the right decision?

There was a little kid — maybe seven — who had never picked up a club. After some playful coaching and a few simulator games, he hit a clean shot and his whole face lit up like a sunrise. That joy — the instant spark — reminded me why grassroots development matters. That, and seeing our coaching staff using the tech to fine-tune a pro’s putting in a 15-minute session. The contrast between grassroots joy and elite precision under one roof — that’s exactly the ecosystem I wanted.

Any advice for parents who are considering enrolling their kids in golf programs?

Start with play and curiosity. Don’t pressure results. Look for programs that care about physical development, not just technique. And don’t underestimate technology — tools like GOLFJOY make practice more engaging and measurable, which really helps kids stick with it. Finally, make it fun. If it’s fun, they’ll come back, and great things follow.

📌

Leaving the Nansha venue I felt something rare: a sense that elite sport and community can coexist without compromise. Shanshan’s approach — part champion, part coach, part entrepreneur — makes the space feel ambitious yet warm. The marriage of GOLFJOY’s tech and Shanshan’s vision might be exactly what grassroots golf in China needs: rigorous where it matters, joyful where it counts.
